The Cincinnati Open has been hit with some incredibly tough weather in the opening few days of the Masters tournament.
The qualifying for the tournament was disrupted by rain, while the last couple of days have been unbelievably hot at the Ohio competition.
Novak Djokovic certainly struggle in the Cincinnati heat as he crashed out in his second round match against Thiago Agusting Tirante, which saw the Serbian vomit into his towel in the process.
Several other players have struggled to deal with the heat at the tournament too, particularly on Sunday, 16th August, when temperatures were well over 30 degrees Celcius and the humidity was stifling.
Speaking at the Cincinnati Open after defeating Marco Trungelliti in a fiercely fought straight sets contest, Medvedev spoke about just how difficult the conditions were at the tournament.
“I’m happy to have avoided a third set, it’s very hot. I even think, according to the forecasts, that it’s the hottest day. I saw that he (Trungelliti) was also struggling, that’s maybe why he couldn’t close out the second set. It’s hard for everyone,” said Medvedev.
“From the start of the match, when the second set arrives, everyone is out of breath, sweating, the conditions are tough. I’m happy to have been able to win in two sets. Tomorrow is a rest day, I will recover.”
It’s hard not to think that Jannik Sinner has made the right decision to not play the Cincinnati Open, even if he wasn’t currently dealing with a knee injury.

Sinner opted out of the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Open and will instead head to the US Open without a single warm up even on a North American hardcourt.
The Italian has consistently struggled in hot conditions and succumbing to the heat this close to the US Open would be disatrous for the world No 1.
Sinner failed to deal well with the intensity of the humidity at the Shanghai Masters last year against Tallon Griekspoor, where he was forced to retire at one set all and on serve in the decider.
He also survived a scare against Eliot Spizzirri in the Melbourne heat at the Australian Open, when the roof was closed due to the intense heat. The Italian was a set and a break down when the heat index became too high at the Grand Slam.
Elsewhere, Sinner’s exit at Roland Garros could be put down to the heat, when he capitulated while two sets up against Juan Manuel Cerundolo.
The fact Sinner is not playing the Cincinnati Open should be seen as a blessing for Sinner, and he has clearly made a wise scheduling decision ahead of the US Open.
