Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the US Open due to a knee injury suffered at Wimbledon.

The Italian has been absent since his successful Wimbledon title defence when he defeated Alexander Zverev in four sets.

It’s been a frustrating period for Sinner who was set to win all nine Masters 1000 events this year before withdrawing from Montreal and Cincinnati.

A knee injury that was suffered at Wimbledon has derailed his preparation for the US Open and now Sinner has revealed he will miss the last Grand Slam of the season.

Revealing the news on social media Sinner explained his sorrow at the news, “Even though I have been working hard with my team and my medical staff, we have now had to make the difficult decision that I will not be able to compete at the US Open this year,” Sinner explained on X.

“We have been back on court in Monte Carlo over the last couple of days and have realised that I still need more time to recover from my right knee issue. I’m obviously very sad and disappointed, as New York has a special place in my heart. I was very much looking forward to coming back and playing in the electric atmosphere in front of the great fans there.”

Sinner was a champion in New York in 2024 and lost to Carlos Alcaraz in last year’s final.

It now means only this year’s Australian Open is the only Grand Slam event where Sinner and Alcaraz have both been present.

Alcaraz will compete at the US Open which starts on the 30th of August.
