After a gruelling five-month absence from the ATP Tour, Carlos Alcaraz is finally ready to return to tennis at the US Open.

In a social media post in collaboration with football journalist Fabrizo Romano, Alcaraz confirmed that he would be making his return at Flushing Meadows.

It puts an end Alcaraz’s hiatus, which including missing several Masters tournaments, as well as Roland Garros and Wimbledon back-to-back.

It’s fitting that Alcaraz should return at the US Open, as he has created some of his most enduring memories at the New York Grand Slam.

Alcaraz has played the tournament five times, winning the tournament twice, in 2022 and 2025.

As a result, Alcaraz has the best winning percentage at the US Open in the Open Era, ahead of some of the biggest names in the sport.

Best winning percentage at the US Open in the Open Era

- Carlos Alcaraz – 88.9%

- Pete Sampras – 88.8%

- Roger Federer 86.4%

- Novak Djokovic – 86.4%

- Jimmy Connors – 85.2%

Alcaraz’s 88.9% winning rate at the Grand Slam is better than the likes of Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Jimmy Connors.

It is, of course, worth noting that those players have played the tournament far more than Alcaraz, so the Spaniard will need to continue to be dominant at the tournament to continue to sit above those greats.

As well as his two Grand Slam victories at the US Open, Alcaraz has reached the semi final and the quarter finals of the New York tournament.

His worst performance came in 2024, when he was defeated in the second round of the tournament by Botic van de Zandschulp.

At this year’s event, Alcaraz will arrive at the tournament as one of the favourites to win the tournament, particularly after Jannik Sinner’s withdrawal.

Alcaraz will be the second seed at the event, behind Alexander Zverev, but it is worth noting the Spaniard will certainly need to shake off some rust.

The three players to beat Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open

- 2021: Felix Auger-Aliassime

- 2023: Daniil Medvedev

- 2024: Botic van de Zandschulp

If he can get through his first few matches unscathed at the tournament, then he has all the ability to play himself into the Grand Slam and truly go deep.

Alcaraz will also reportedly be playing the US Open mixed doubles alongside Serena Williams, which will also give him the chance to get some reps in before the singles main draw.

The Spaniard will find out his first singles opponent in five months when the US Open draw is made on Thursday, August 27th, just three days before the main draw kicks off.
