Carlos Alcaraz is widely expected to play doubles with Serena Williams in the US Open’s revamped mixed doubles tournament.

The tournament, which was revamped into a star-studded blockbuster in 2025, will see teams such as Felix Auger-Aliassime and Alex Eala and Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka.

Alcaraz has been widely rumoured for much of the summer to be playing alongside Williams, but reports have intensified since the star confirmed he would be playing the tournament.

Several reputable tennis journalists, including Ben Rothenberg and Jon Wertheim, have suggested that Alcaraz and Williams will play together at Flushing Meadows.

Alcaraz has not played much doubles in his career, with just a 9-6 win-loss record since making his ATP Tour debut in 2018, and he’s never won a title in the format.

Alcaraz has very famously paired with Rafael Nadal at the Paris Olympics in 2024 for the King of Clay’s final Olympic event.

The Spanish pair won two matches to reach the quarter finals of the competition, but they were eventually defeated by American duo Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram.

In 2022, Alcaraz played three ATP Tour events in doubles. At the Madrid Open, he reached the round of 16 alongside Marc Lopez and he entered Indian Wells with Pablo Carreno Busta, but they were beaten in the first round.

At the Rio Open, Carreno Busta and Alcaraz reached the quarter finals of the ATP 500 event, but they were beaten by Granollers and Horacio Zeballos.

Alcaraz also played two events with Carreno Busta during the 2021 season, where they reached the round of 32 at Indian Wells and the quarter finals of the Barcelona Open.

The Spaniard’s only taste of mixed doubles came at the 2023 Hopman Cup, where Alcaraz paired with Rebeka Masarova in two losing efforts.

Alcaraz and Masarova were beaten by Belgium’s Elise Mertens and David Goffin, as well as Croatia’s Donna Vekic and Borna Coric.

The world No 3 will be hoping he performs better alongside 23-time Grand Slam champion Williams, and there will certainly be more eyes on them as they try and navigate the US Open mixed doubles.
