Jannik Sinner is understood to have hired Magnus Norman as his new coach, with one of his current coaches retiring at the end of this season, according to The Times.

The current world No. 1 has decided to work with the highly experienced Norman, who has coached Stan Wawrinka during his final year on the Tour. Norman is a former world No. 2 player who won 12 ATP titles and finished runner-up at the 2000 French Open. After retiring from professional tennis, the Swede became a coach and is best known for his work with three-time major champion Wawrinka, as well as Thomas Johansson and Robin Soderling. He is also the co-founder of the Good to Great Tennis Academy.

Norman is set to take over from Darren Cahill, who has been jointly coaching Sinner since 2022 with Simone Vagnozzi. In recent months, there has been speculation about 61-year-old Cahill’s future in the sport. As it stands, Vagnozzi’s position on the team will remain unchanged.

The highly significant development comes after Sinner pulled the plug on his season earlier this month due to a knee injury that has sidelined him from the Tour since Wimbledon. Despite ending his year early, the Italian has still won six titles in 2026, five at Masters 1000 events and one at Wimbledon.

“Me, together with the doctors, have decided that I need a course of treatment for my knee, which means that the 2026 season is officially over,” Sinner said in a video posted on Instagram earlier this month.

“The last couple of years, especially the ending in Turin, gave me so many beautiful feelings and emotions. This year is going to be way different. But at the moment I also need to think about my long-term career.

“I will do everything possible to get back to 100%. I thank you already in advance for you support, and hope to see you very, very soon on the court.”

Sinner is set to return to action in December at the Six Kings Slam in Saudi Arabia, which has been postponed due to security concerns in the region.

Norman is currently at the Swiss Indoors in Basel, where Stan Wawrinka is playing his last tournament. Neither he nor Sinner has commented on The Times’ report so far.
