Novak Djokovic has been handed a tricky draw in his quest for more history in New York City.

The Serb is on a quest for a 25th Grand Slam title after multiple missed opportunities in the past but this may be his best shot yet.

There is no Jannik Sinner who continues to recover from a knee injury while Carlos Alcaraz is only just returning from a wrist injury that has kept him out of action since Barcelona.

A tricky test awaits Djokovic in the second round though as either Matteo Berrettini or Stan Wawrinka could await.

A match against Wawrinka would be a rematch of the 2016 US Open which Wawrinka won to win the title and that would be fitting for the Swiss as this is his last Grand Slam event of his career.

Before Djokovic can think about that match, the Serb will have to get past Mariano Navone in the first round while Tomas Martin Etcheverry is the seed awaiting him in the third round.

In the last 16, Djokovic could face the in-form Brandon Nakashima or Andrey Rublev while Daniil Medvedev could be awaiting in the quarter-finals.

Speaking of Rublev, the 23rd seed has a tough opening round match against former champion Marin Cilic while Medvedev could face Frances Tiafoe in the fourth round.

Djokovic’s quarter is in the same half of the draw as Carlos Alcaraz who begins his campaign against Roman Safiullin.

There could be a third round clash against Matteo Arnaldi while Alexander Bublik or Tommy Paul await in the last 16.

In the quarter-finals Alcaraz could face Ben Shelton but the eighth seed would start his US Open against Tallon Griekspoor.

In the fourth round, Shelton could face Cincinnati champion Arthur Fils but the Frenchman will start his campaign against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The top half of the draw involves top seed Alexander Zverev who starts his campaign against Lorenzo Sonego.

There is a potential fourth round clash for Zverev against Lorenzo Musetti with the Italian beginning his campaign against Arthur Fery.

Alex De Minaur would be Zverev’s quarter-final opponent with the Australian having to overcome obstacles such as Rafael Jodar and Casper Ruud.

Felix Auger-Aliassime is the other main seed in the top half of the draw with the Canadian beginning against Rinky Hijikata with Jakub Mensik and Learner Tien being some of his obstacles in the draw.

Meanwhile, Taylor Fritz will face Darwin Blanch in his opening round and could face Flavio Cobolli in the last 16.

The US Open will begin on Sunday.
