Jannik Sinner’s absence from the ATP Tour will continue after he withdraw from the Shanghai Rolex Masters.

The Italian hasn’t played a tennis match since his triumph at Wimbledon as he has been rehabilitating a knee injury.

At the time it wasn’t an injury that looked serious but it has turned out the way as he missed the US Open and will now miss the Asian swing.

There was hope that Sinner would be back for the Masters 1000 event in Shanghai but Sinner has been forced to withdraw.

Revealing the news on Instagram this is what Sinner said, “Unfortunately I won’t be able to play at the Rolex Shanghai Masters this year as I had hopes,” Sinner began his statement.

“I always enjoy playing in front of the Shanghai fans and I’m very sorry that I won’t be able to do so next week. Thank you for all your support. I’m looking forward to seeing you again next year!”

The latest blow for Sinner means that Alexander Zverev could become the new world number one at the end of Shanghai if he wins the event and the tournament in Beijing this week.

As for Sinner, the Italian is facing a race against time to be fit for the Nitto ATP Finals which takes place in Turin in November.
