Emma Raducanu will not be playing at the US Open later this month due to an ongoing stress fracture in her lower right leg.

The Press Association and The Times newspaper have both confirmed Raducanu’s withdrawal from the Grand Slam, which she won in 2021. It will be the second consecutive major event she has missed after Wimbledon and the last time she played on the Tour was in the final of the HSBC Championships in June.

It is understood that Raducanu’s decision to miss Flushing Meadows was made following a medical consultation. The exact issue she is dealing with is a grade-four stress fracture in her shin. She is currently rehabbing in St Moritz, Switzerland and posted a video of her hitting on a clay court yesterday on Instagram. In the video, she was still wearing a protective boot over the lower part of her leg.

Raducanu was defending third round points (130) at the US Open. She is currently ranked 49th in the world but will very likely drop further in the coming weeks due to her absence from the Tour.

It is not the first time the 23-year-old has suffered a setback this season. A foot injury also hampered her pre-season training. Then she missed just over two months of the Tour due to a severe post-viral illness between March and May. When she returned, Raducanu suffered back-to-back first round losses before reaching the final at Queen’s. Her win-loss record for 2026 currently stands at 11-9.

Raducanu is yet to comment on her US Open withdrawal and it is unknown when she plans to return. She wasn’t included in the British team for the Billie Jean King Cup finals, which will be held in China from 22-27 September. However, there is an option for the team to add a fifth member closer to the event if they wish to do so.
