Carlos Alcaraz is into the Vienna semi-finals after beating Tommy Paul in straight sets while Daniil Medvedev qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals.

The Spaniard overcame Paul in a straight sets win as Alcaraz won 6-4 7-6(2) to book his place in the final four.

After a tight opening set, Alcaraz once again went to a tiebreak just like his previous contest as the Spaniard produced an efficient display in Austria.

After the match Alcaraz was pleased with his victory in Austria, “I think everybody could see the points we played today. Great rallies, great points, great shots from both of us,” Alcaraz told the ATP website.

“I’m really happy and I really enjoy these kinds of matches. I’m a huge fan of Tommy, to be honest. His style, and I love the way he plays and love watching him play. So for me, playing against him is always a pleasure.

“Today I just hope everybody could enjoy this match. I did, and I’m obviously really happy with the performance that I gave today. I think I played great tennis… I would say overall just happy for the battle and happy I found my way to get the win in straight sets.”

It’s now a 24 match winning streak for Alcaraz at ATP 500 level as he searches for a first title at the Erste Bank Open.

Next up for Alcaraz is a meeting with Daniil Medvedev who reached the semi-finals in Vienna with a 6-3 6-2 victory over Adrian Mannarino.

It was a clinical display from Medvedev who broke on four occasions to seal his passage into the semi-finals.

The more significant meaning for Medvedev is that he has qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals with the win and will make a seventh appearance at the event but his first since 2024.

There are now four places left at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin with the race heating up over the next couple of weeks.

As for Vienna, Alcaraz and Medvedev will now meet for the tenth time in their career with Alcaraz leading the head-to-head 6-3 but Medvedev won their only meeting this year at Indian Wells.
