Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev both edged through to the Vienna quarter-finals in tight contests.
There was a straight sets victory for Alcaraz who defeated Nikoloz Basilashvili to reach the last eight in Austria.
It was a comfortable opening set for the Spaniard who claimed the opening set in 29 minutes producing some dominant tennis.
However, in the second set Basilashvili responded with some impressive tennis and had four set points.
The Australian Open champion saved the set points and won the second set tiebreak 13-11 to keep his chances of winning the title in Vienna alive.
After the match Alcaraz revealed that he was pleased with his performance, “I would say I played great, overall, from the beginning to the last point,” the Spaniard told the ATP website.
“I played great tennis and I’m really happy with the performance that I did today. In the first set I was hitting the ball unbelievably and was feeling great on the court. I felt like he couldn’t play his style. Then in the second set I started pretty well, the same as the first set, but that game at 3-2, serving at him with a couple of mistakes, and he raised his level.
“I let him get into the match again. After that I would say it was really close. He was playing great, and obviously that tie-break. He had three easy balls to win the set, and I had three easy balls to win the match. I ended up missing the chances, but I’m just really happy with the way that I fought back.”
Next up for Alcaraz will be seventh seed Tommy Paul after the American knocked out Luciano Darderi in straight sets.
In the same half of the draw, Daniil Medvedev survived a brutal second round test as he won a last set tiebreaker against Cameron Norrie.
In the last eight Medvedev will now face Adrian Mannarino as he looks to keep up his recent winning streak having won the title in Almaty a few weeks ago.
