Sara Bejlek’s dream Cincinnati run continues as she is into the semi-finals of Cincinnati after victory over Madison Keys.
It’s been an incredible tournament for the 20 year-old who is set to be seeded for the US Open in a couple of weeks time.
Bejlek backed up her win over world number one Aryna Sabalenka with a big win over another former Grand Slam champion Madison Keys.
It was a 3-6 6-4 7-6(5) win for Bejlek who showed nerves of steel to reach the last four in Cincinnati.
After the match Bejlek said that her belief got her through the match as she praised her level of performance, “I just keep believing,” Bejlek told the WTA website.
“I was just trying to focus on myself no matter what is going on the other side of the court. In this moment, I don’t truly know. I’m trying to focus on every match. We had a kind of big talk with my team a couple of weeks ago, and since that moment. I feel that it’s going quite well and I’m getting better in the believing in myself and improving also physically on the court.”
It’s been a magical run from Bejlek who has exceeded her expectations and is into the last four in Cincinnati.
Next up for Bejlek is Coco Gauff who cruised past Marta Kostyuk 6-2 6-2 to reach the semi-finals.
A former champion in Cincinnati Gauff was throughly impressed with her net game throughout the match, “I didn’t realize how good I was at it until Wimbledon,” Gauff admitted to the WTA website.
“Everyone has been telling me to come to the net more. Actually, Chris Evert has been texting me sometimes to come to the net more. And I tell her yeah, I’m going to, and then I just don’t. I finally did at Wimbledon and I won so many points that way.
“And obviously here, there’s just a big difference when you’re able to finish the point at the net.”
Now, Gauff has the chance to reach the final in Cincinnati when she takes on Bejlek and the American is looking forward to the challenge, “She’s such an athletic, fast player. She really makes you earn every point and (she’s) a fighter,” Gauff told the WTA website.
“It’s going to be a tough match because I feel like we have some similarities movement-wise. I’m looking forward to it.”
