A women’s draw that lacks star opening week matches could set the tone for a dramatic second week in New York.
Unlike the men’s draw, the women’s draw hasn’t got an awful lot of star first round matches but the second week could be an exciting prospect.
Two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka starts her hat-trick bid against Camila Osorio with former Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova a potential third round match.
A potential Roland Garros semi-final rematch could await in the third round with Diana Shnaider and Maja Chwalinska set to meet and the winner meeting Sabalenka.
The in-form Marta Kostyuk will face Sloane Stephens or Clara Tauson in the second round while the Ukrainian could meet Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova in the fourth round.
In the semi-finals Sabalenka could once again meet Jessica Pegula who will start her campaign against Elena-Gabriela Ruse.
While Pegula will meet the winner of Sofia Kenin or Venus Williams in the second round, the more interesting match-up is in the third round against former finalist Leylah Fernandez.
The quarter-final for Pegula is Karolina Muchova with the seventh seed potentially facing Elina Svitolina in the fourth round.
In the bottom half of the draw, it’s a tough draw for Mirra Andreeva who will face Janice Tjen in the opening round before potentially facing Jelena Ostapenko in the third round and Amanda Anisimova in the fourth round.
Meanwhile, an exciting third round contest between Iva Jovic and Alexandra Eala could evolve while Coco Gauff could be set to meet Cincinnati semi-finalist Sara Bejlek in the third round.
In that same section Daria Kasatkina will meet Paula Badosa in a rare blockbuster opening round in this part of the draw.
The bottom section of the draw would see Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina meet in the quarter-finals although Madison Keys and Naomi Osaka will be hoping to burst their bubble.
The US Open starts on Sunday.
