For the first time in his career, Novak Djokovic has taken part in a detailed documentary detailing his time at the very top of tennis.
Novak Djokovic: The Wolf in Winter released on Amazon Prime on Thursday, 20th August, and the 24-time Grand Slam champion was front and centre with plenty of talking head interviews.
Djokovic might still be plying his trade on the ATP Tour, but he took the time to look back on his career for the documentary, as well as look ahead to what he has left in the sport.
During the documentary, Djokovic explained the reasons for his longevity and why he is still playing elite sport at the age of 39 years old.

“I cannot say I feel content with what I have and who I am. I am always looking to be more – better, faster, stronger. Often times I feel I am imprisoning myself,” he said in the documentary.
“Why would I talk about retirement when I still keep proving to myself that I can still win? As long as I have the drive, the passion, but most of all, as long as I feel like I can be one of the best players in the world, I want to keep going.”
Speaking about his desire to retire after the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, Djokovic said: “It seems a long way out. I feel like I can make it. I would like to end with the Serbian flag on my shoulders. It would be a nice way to wrap up something I’m very proud of.”
Djokovic’s wife, Jelena, also appeared in the documentary and suggested the Serbian icon is reticent when it comes to hanging up his racket.
“He definitely has mixed feelings about his retirement,” said Jelena Djokovic in the Amazon documentary. “He carries that burden that he’s never enough. No matter how much he does, it will never be enough. Tennis is a fulfilling place for him – a place where he feels worthy.”
Djokovic has played six tournaments this year, including all three Grand Slams to date.
He reached the final of the Australian Open and the semi finals of Wimbledon, while his worst performance at a major this year came at Roland Garros, where he was knocked out of the third round.
Djokovic has also appeared at Indian Wells, the Italian Open, and the Cincinnati Open, where he was far less successful.
Nevertheless, the 24-time Grand Slam champion has proved he can still cut it at the biggest tournaments in tennis, which is testament to his current abilities and his longevity.
Djokovic’s next appearance is set to be at the US Open, which he has won four times previously in his career.
