Elena Rybakina only lost five games as she knocked out two-time champion Naomi Osaka at the US Open.
The Australian Open champion was in sensational form from the first ball as she hit 29 winners in the contest.
It was a majestic performance against a toothless Osaka who produced a stable yet passive performance.
A quick double break lead wrapped up a rapid 22 minute set as Rybakina was serving immaculately.
There was a better response in the second set from Osaka who served consistently well and put pressure on Rybakina.
Under pressure, Rybakina delivered spectacularly as Osaka couldn’t keep up with the world number two.
After saving two break points in the previous two return games, Osaka’s resistance was finally broken in the seventh game with Rybakina taking a 4-3 lead.
The two-time champion did save a couple of match points to force Rybakina to serve for the match.
An ace secured a comfortable day’s work as Rybakina marches into the quarter-finals of the US Open.
It was disappointment for Osaka who has not done enough this season to test tennis’ elite in the big events.
Rybakina will now face Qinwen Zheng in the last eight on Wednesday.
