Boris Becker and Alexander Zverev continue to go back-and-forth as their feud has continued throughout the 2026 season.

Just recently, Becker took exception with Zverev speaking in Russian to his team, which Zverev dismissed as nonsense after he exited the Paris Masters.

“I don’t know what’s going on with him right now, but I get the feeling he has to comment on everything I do. If he feels he needs that, then let him,” said Zverev in the German-speaking section of his Paris Masters press conference.

Now, Boris Becker has ruled out ever coaching Zverev again after their forays together between 2017 and 2021, when Zverev was a burgeoning talent on the ATP Tour.

Explaining his reasoning in an interview with Der Spiegel, Becker said: “I have to be the boss in the ring. If a family member then has a different opinion, in a language I don’t understand, in this case Russian, then it’s unacceptable.

“I was in his box at many matches, I was on the practice court, and I actively supported him. We’ve had our ups and downs. I’m 30 years older than him, I have children his age. You have to tell these young people what they don’t like to hear sometimes.

“That might motivate them even more; they think, ‘What’s he talking about? I’ll show that old guy.’ That’s okay. The main thing is that he wins. And he did this year.

Becker has, however, confirmed that he has received several messages about potentially returning to tennis as a coach.

“There have been several inquiries, of course I won’t mention any names! Let’s see what happens next year,” said the German star who claimed multiple Grand Slams.

Becker is the latest free agent coach who is potentially looking for a role in 2027. The likes of Ivan Ljubicic and Juan Carlos Ferrero have re-joined the ATP Tour, working with the likes of Felix Auger-Aliassime and Ben Shelton respectively.

Elsewhere, Magnus Norman has swapped Stan Wawrinka for Jannik Sinner after the former ended his career after over two decades in the sport.

David Ferrer, who is set to step down as Spain’s Davis Cup captain after the Finals at the end of the year, is another high-profile free agent coach heading into 2027.

Ferrer has been tipped to join Carlos Alcaraz’s coaching team in an attempt to continue his rise up the rankings and challenge Sinner and Zverev at the top of the ATP Tour rankings.

It could be a very interesting off-season, with many coaches seemingly looking for a new role in the sport.
