Ben Shelton is looking forward to his quarter-final contest with Tommy Paul in Paris after surviving a massive test against Arthur Rinderknech.

In a tough battle Shelton showed why he will be competing at the Nitto ATP Finals in a couple of weeks time as he edged past Arthur Rinderknech.

A tense match ended with Shelton defeating Rinderknech 3-6 6-4 7-6(5) to book his place in the quarter-finals and has now set up a meeting with Tommy Paul.

It was a straight sets win for Paul over another home hope in the form of Quentin Halys as it will be an all-American quarter-final in Paris.

The contest will have extra meaning as Paul is looking to strengthen his ATP Finals charge and must win tomorrow to keep his Turin dream alive.

Ahead of the contest Shelton is expecting fireworks and is looking forward to facing his good friend, “It’s been a long time since we’ve been on the court, but I’m looking forward to it,” Shelton told the ATP website.

“He’s in great form right now. A great player, a great friend. I’ve been rooting for him all year to make a push and make it to Turin. It will be fireworks tomorrow.”

In other results in Paris, Rinky Hijikata backed up his win over Novak Djokovic with a win over Tomas Martin Etcheverry while Lorenzo Musetti went out to Luca Van Assche.

The head-to-head is currently tied at 2-2 between Shelton and Paul with the match being the first quarter-final at 2pm local time tomorrow.
